Parties to have booth-level agents

‘They will assist in enrolling voters’

VISAKHAPATNAM: The booth-level agent (BLA) system, introduced by the Election Commission, will be implemented in the run up to the forthcoming elections. Booth-level agents to be appointed by the respective recognised political parties should be voters in that booth area and should not be government employees, District Collector Sanjay Kumar has said.

At a meeting with election returning officers and assistant returning officers here on Monday, he said political parties should handover the details of appointments to the officials concerned.

State-level president/secretary of authorised State body will appoint local leaders who will in turn appoint BLAs.

Revision of rolls

The BLAs will assist in enrolling voters and also recommend names of those who died or migrated to other parts to booth-level officers BLOs).

The BLOs in turn recommend the names to the officers concerned.

The revision of electoral rolls will be taken up from December 3 to 18.

Joint Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy said BLAs should be available from December 3 to 18 for a door-to-door survey.

GVMC Commissioner B. Sridhar, Additional Commissioner (General) P. Bhaskar and DRO K. Madanmohan Rao participated.

Bogus voters

At a meeting with political parties in the evening, the Joint Collector said on December 13 and 14, BLAs and BLOs would discuss deletions/inclusions.

He was of the view that deletion of bogus voters would be possible in the BLA system.

He stated that 72 per cent of voters were included in the photo identity system and political parties should co-operate with the administration to make it 100 per cent.

Ch. Narsinga Rao and Ganga Rao (CPI-M), T. Subbarami Reddy (BJP), GPV Raju (Congress) and Reddy Narayana Rao (TDP) participated.
