Rajiv Arogyasri cover for psychiatric diseases

VIJAYAWADA: Psychiatrist Indla Ramasubba Reddy, a former national president of the Indian Psychiatry Society, has said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had agreed to include psychiatric illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression in the list of diseases covered by the Rajiv Arogyasri health insurance scheme.

The psychiatrist, who had met the Chief Minister in Hyderabad on Saturday, said in a statement that the Chief Minister had agreed to take up this issue for discussion in the next meeting of Rajiv Arogyasri Healthcare Trust.

Dr. Reddy said this would go a long way in taking care of the healthcare of thousands of people suffering from psychiatric illness, and no other State had included psychiatric diseases in any insurance scheme.

He thanked the Chief Minister for conceding his plea.
