WARANGAL: The University Grants Commission (UGC) team under the chairmanship of Pune Bharati Vidyapeeth University former Vice-Chancellor U.R. Bhoite is visiting the Kakatiya University from December 3 to 6. According to Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor N. Linga Murthy, proposals to the tune of Rs. 37.50 crore will be submitted to the visiting UGC team for the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period. The UGC sanctioned Rs. 3.85 crore for the Tenth Five-Year Plan period (2002-07). Proposals are being prepared for establishment of an engineering college on the campus, construction of separate hostels for boys and girls with an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore each, special grant of Rs. 1 crore under backward area development, centre for bio-diversity studies, development of library facilities (Rs. 1 crore), sports & games facilities (Rs. 50 lakh), special schemes for SC/ST students (Rs. 1.0 crore), a computer centre, health centre upgradation, etc. New coursesThe proposals also include introduction of new courses such as Pharm D. M.Sc. nano science & technology, master of governance & human development, master of tribal studies, M.Sc. psychology, M.A. (comparative literature), besides support for five-year integrated courses in biotechnology, chemistry and law, and extension of Telangana Development Study Centre. Crucial visitAs the visit of the team is crucial with regard to the university’s development during the next five years, all the colleges, departments and centres of the university are busy fine-tuning their proposals for presenting them to the UGC team for sanction of grants in the Eleventh Plan of UGC. Prof. Linga Murthy and Registrar N. Satyanarayana are taking special interest for securing UGC grants for the university. The team will visit all the colleges, departments and centres in two batches to study the proposals of the respective branches.
