10,605 litres of illicit arrack seized

KRISHNAGIRI: About 10,605 litres of illicit arrack was seized from near Bargur in Krishnagiri on Sunday.
Acting on a tip off, sleuths from Prohibition Enforcement Wing were conducting vehicle checks on National Highway-46.
They stopped a lorry bearing the registration number TN 28 AB 2736 and found it loaded with illicit arrack in 303 plastic cans covered by curtain boxes meant for packaging polythene yarn of major fabric companies.
Lorry driver Moidheen of Mettupalayam and cleaner Kannan of Coimbatore were arrested. The police said that the illicit arrack was being smuggled through Nagaraj of Mettupalayam. The arrack belonged to Thippesamy alias Kumar of Bangalore. The arrack was bound for Puducherry from Vapi in Gujarat.
On the order of the District Superintendent of Police Ms. Anisha Hussein and Additional Superintendent of Police (PEW) D. Magesh Kumar, the team led by the Inspector Mr. T. Saravanan and Head Constables Ravindran and Ramadoss vehicle check was conducted at the Thappavadi Junction.
Two special teams have been formed to arrest Thippesamy and Nagaraj.
