BJP for all-party meet on terrorism
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The State BJP urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to convene an all-party meeting to discuss ways to tackle terrorism in the wake of the Mumbai incident.
In a letter to Dr. Reddy, B. Dattatreya, president, said the Mumbai attack had thrown up certain disturbing questions which had greater relevance to Andhra Pradesh, especially Hyderabad. ‘Are we as a State ready if a similar attack happens here?’
Claiming that people of the State were feeling ‘extremely threatened’, he demanded measures to give a sense of re-assurance to them.
The BJP leader urged Dr. Reddy to revive and strengthen the counter-intelligence department, expedite expansion of OCTOPUS and give a free hand to police for collecting data on terrorist activities and counter them.
He wanted the Government to speed up investigation into the blasts here.
