BANGALORE: Former Janata Dal (S) leader C. Chennigappa will be the BJP candidate for the byelection to the Madhugiri Assembly seat. BJP State president D.V. Sadananda Gowda announced his candidature to presspersons here on Monday. The Madhugiri seat became vacant after Mr. Chennigappa’s son Gowrishankar, who had been elected on the Janata Dal (S) ticket, resigned from the Legislative Assembly and joined the BJP. Meanwhile, the State BJP formally commenced its preparations for the Lok Sabha polls by holding a meeting of the party’s State parliamentary poll coordination committee. The meeting was attended among others by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and party general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar. Mr. Sadananda Gowda said the party had instructed the parliamentary poll monitoring committees of each Assembly segment to hold constituency-wise meeting of party workers to prepare them for the Lok Sabha polls. The party decided to strengthen its booth-level committees ahead of the parliamentary polls. Mr. Sadananda Gowda launched a counter attack on former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna for criticising the BJP and its government. He accused Mr. Krishna of neglecting his home constituency Maddur.
