‘Centre delayed despatching NSG commandos to Mumbai’ ‘Damage could have been minimised if government was alert’
United stand: Leaders of CPI, CPI (M) and TRS gather at the chambers of the leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu in the Assembly lobby after they paid tributes to victims of the terror attack in Mumbai, in Hyderabad on Monday. HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday sharply criticised the UPA government at the Centre and the Maharashtra government for their miserable failure in preventing the terror strike in Mumbai. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said the incidents should not have taken place at all in the first place. What was more dangerous than the incidents themselves was Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh visiting Taj Hotel with his son and film director Ramgopal Verma. Mr. Naidu blamed the Centre for delay in despatching NSG commandos to Mumbai and said the damage could have been minimised if the government was alert to the situation. The Prime Minister should have convened a meeting of the strategy committee when the attacks came to the notice of the government on Wednesday night. He said the anger, anguish and protests of public in the wake of the incidents was understandable since the political leadership, particularly the ruling parties, failed to rise to the occasion. Instead, the public made the commandos heroes. The role of the government was missing though it was supposed to be extra vigilant due to bad neighbouring countries. Mr. Naidu refused to be drawn into the question whether the present political situation at the national-level in the aftermath of Mumbai incidents would benefit the BJP. Asked whether the TDP will extend moral support to the BJP, Mr. Naidu asked reporters not to mix politics with the latest developments. He quipped “you cannot see politics in everything.”
