Congress braces for Legislative Council bypoll

Thirteen candidates are in the fray for the bypoll

Two withdraw from the contest on Monday


KARIMNAGAR: The ruling Congress party had intensified electioneering for the byelection to the Legislative Council from Karimnagar graduates constituency comprising Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Medak districts.

Former Karimnagar Town Congress president Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy is to represent the party. .

During the filing of nomination by Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy, former DCC president T. Santosh Kumar, former legislators Bomma Venkateshwar, K. Satyanarayana Goud, Markfed Chairman Ponnam Prabhakar, Mayor D. Shankar, PCC general secretary N. Sharada and other party functionaries were present.

The district party leaders including Zilla Parishad Chairman Arepalli Mohan, MIM leaders and others participated during the inauguration of the election office of the contesting candidate Bhaskar Reddy in the town on Monday. Party sources said that Bhaskar Reddy has the support of APCC president D. Srinivas, who promised to strive for his victory in the Council byelection. Minister for R&B T Jeevan Reddy, who is in-charge Minister of Adilabad district, is focusing on the campaign of Bhaskar Reddy in Adilabad district.

Minister for Cooperative and Fisheries Md. Fariduddin assured complete support from his Medak district. On the other hand, Mr. Jeevan Reddy consulted Ministers of all the three districts and mobilised their support.

Accordingly, Bhaskar Reddy was informed to visit Hyderabad on Tuesday to seek the guidance of three district Ministers and chalk out a strategy for electioneering in the respective districts.

Meanwhile, two nominees have withdrawn from the contest for the Legislative Council bypoll on Monday.

Kanname Suresh and Madla Srinivas Reddy have withdrawn their nominations.

With this, a total of 13 candidates are in the fray for the by-election.

They candidates in the fray are: Naradasu Laxman Rao (TRS), P. Venkat Narayan Reddy (BJP), Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy , Independents -Allori Malla Reddy, C. Kamala Kumari, Kurapati Krishna Prasad, Golla Manaiah, Banapuram Madhusudhan Reddy, Makkaji Ram Raj, Mamilla Saya Reddy, L. Srinath, K. Srinivas and Sripathi Sathaiah.
