Local body chief, husband killed

VILLUPURAM: Kallanatham panchayat president C. Arukkani (43) and her husband P. Chinnaiyan died in a road accident at Chinna Salem near here on Sunday.

According to the police, they were proceeding on a two-wheeler from Kallakurichi to Chinna Salem, when they were knocked down by a lorry.

While Chinnaiyan died on the spot, Arukkani died on the way to hospital. The police arrested lorry driver V. Kumar (32) of Gengavalli, Salem district.
