Bijapur: Bijapur Zilla Panchayat president Afsarabegum Chapparband has instructed Deputy Director of Public Instruction Rajendra Prasad to cancel the orders transferring 59 teachers on the charge of dereliction of duty. The decision was taken at a zilla panchayat general body meeting held here on Monday. Zilla Panchayat member Panchappa Kalburgi said in the meeting that instead of punishing teachers for dereliction of duty, they were being rewarded by the Education Department. Zilla panchayat member Kattimani alleged that officers of the Public Works Department were inviting tenders without the consent of the respective zilla panchayat members and were issuing bogus work completion certificates. “Tenders are allotted to the kith and kin of MLAs or those with influence. Officers are not verifying the quality of work,” he alleged. Ms. Chapparband instructed the PWD executive engineer to submit a detailed report to her before December 4 .
