Collector releases PLP for Namakkal

Rs. 3 lakh to Mohanur Union to construct rural shandy at Valayapatti village

Crop loan is Rs. 567.24 crores under priority sector; Rs. 153.54 crores for development works


NAMAKKAL: The NABARD-prepared Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) for 2009-10 for Namakkal district has envisaged a total credit flow of Rs.1,294.74 crore for development activities under the priority sector.

The estimates have been made taking into account the human and natural resources endowment factors, infrastructure and other support services available and are likely to be created in the district.

Collector U. Sagayam released it in the district consultative committee meeting here recently.

The primary sector accounts for 59.66 per cent of the total projection while the secondary (Industries) and tertiary sectors (Services) account for 17.34 per cent and 23 per cent respectively.

The share of crop loan is 43.81 per cent (Rs.567.24 crore) under the priority sector and 73.36 per cent of the projections made in the primary sector.

The projection is about 25.60 per cent, which is higher than the Annual Credit Plan target.

For the rural infrastructure development fund (RIDF), NABARD has sanctioned Rs. 153.54 crore for the works included laying of 357 rural road stretches covering about 350 km, construction of nine new bridges and 99 school buildings, nine irrigation projects, 74 rainwater harvesting structures, 36 drinking water structures, 56 veterinary projects, improvements to Adi Dravidar habitations and five panchayat union shandies.

A sum of Rs. 3 lakh has been sanctioned to Mohanur Union for construction of rural shandy at Valayapatti village.

The road and bridge works will certainly facilitate speedy and timely transportation and movement of agriculture produce in the district giving good connectivity to rural areas with marketing centres.

For the year 2009-10, Rs.100 crores have been projected exclusively under RIDF projects. Under Watershed Development Project, a total of five projects are under the implementation augmenting the overall natural resources of the project area. The Collector handed over the first copy of the plan to Samuel Inbadurai, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency. P. Jayakannan, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Namakkal, presided over the function. Mahadevan, DGM, Indian Bank, Salem Circle, T.R Suresh, District Manager, Indian Bank, Namakkal and representatives from banks and government departments participated.
