Rajakas demand due share in power

VIJAYAWADA: Elders, academicians, successful industrialists and business that belong to the Rajaka community of the Backward Classes met in the city to discuss ways and means of making various political parties in the State “sit up and notice them”.

Andhra University professor A. Durga Prasad, PCC executive member Kolanukonda Sivaji, former Andhra Loyola College lecturer S. Veerabrahmam took a lead in the discussion .

Mr. Durga Prasad said leaders from other backward communities like Gavara Naidus and Kalingas were playing a more active role though they belonged to communities that had a numerical strength that was much lower than the Rajakas. Ayyanna Patrudu and Konathala Ramakrishna belonged to the Gavara Naidu community which had a population of less than 10 lakhs.

Similarly Thammineni Sitaram who recently joined Praja Rajyam Party from Telugu Desam belonged to another small BC community of Kalingas. The gathering of Rajaka leaders became conscious of the fact that neither the Rajakas that had a population of 50 lakhs, nor its leaders were being given importance by any of the political parties. The Rajakas would demand for their rightful share of power, he said.

Mr. Durga Prasad said the strength and weakness of the community were assessed and then leaders felt that an attempt should be made to secure tickets from the various political parties for at least 40 members of the Rajaka community.

The gathering decided that they would ask political parties to set aside one Assembly constituency in Krishna, Anantapur, Guntur, Vizag city and East Godavari besides the seat the community held in Telangana.

A chalo Hyderabad programme was being planned before the ensuing Assembly session to show their strength, he said.
