BPCL beats Namdhari XI

GURGAON: Amar Aiyamma and Gurpreet Singh found the target twice each to propel BPCL to a 5-2 victory over Namdhari XI in a quarterfinal league match of the 19th Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

Aiyamma drew first blood in the 32nd minute and struck again in 60th while Gurpreet (64th and 69th) shot home in quick succession in the closing stages of the match. Hari Prasad (43rd) was the other scorer for BPCL.

Two back-to-back goals by Malak Singh (49th) and Gurmail Singh (50th) of Namdhari added some thrill to the contest before BPCL reasserted its authority.

In a one-sided encounter, Air India trounced CRPF 5-0. Star drag-flicker Sandeep Singh (31st and 60th) scored once in each half while A.B. Cheeyana (10th), Dhanraj Pillay (15th) and Lalit Upadhyaya (46th) scored a goal apiece.
