Proclamation rally: A rally organised in connection with the 35th State conference of the Building and Road Workers Federation in Kollam on Sunday.

KOLLAM: Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy has alleged that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) used the workers of the State only as a tool to come to power.

He was inaugurating a public meeting organised in connection with the 35th State conference of the Building and Road Workers Federation here on Sunday.

Mr. Chandy said that after coming to power the LDF not only forgot the workers but also began pursuing policies that are against the interests of the workers.

He alleged that the LDF government was using the global economic slowdown to cover up its failures.

Even as the Union Finance Minister states that the economy of the country is safe, the State government is not prepared to accept it.

A recent statement by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac that a substantial amount of labourers in the plantation sector would lose their jobs as a result of the economic crisis was in fact an anticipatory bail being taken by the State government to escape from its failures.

The State president of the federation A.C. Jose presided over the function.

Earlier, activists of the federation organised a rally from the Asramam Maidan to the DCC grounds where a public meeting was held.

Mr. Jose led the rally.
