Rs.50 lakh for Edakkal caves renovation

KALPETTA: Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby has said that the government has sanctioned Rs.50 lakh for the renovation of the Edakkal caves in the district.

Mr. Baby was inaugurating the concluding ceremony of the Pazhassi Day observance at Mananthavadi on Sunday.

The government would try to collect archaeological records in the custody of private individuals and hand them over to the Archaeological Department, Mr. Baby added.

The Minister inaugurated the renovated monument of Pazhassi Raja and opened the Pazhassi Memorial Museum. K.C. Kunchiraman, MLA, presided over the function.

Speaking at a history seminar held in connection with the 203rd death anniversary of Veera Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, K.K.N. Kurup, historian, said that the terrorist attack in Mumbai was the result of the wrong foreign policies of the Central government. Mr. Kurup was speaking on ‘Current significance of Pazhassi wars.’

M.R .Raghava Warrior, K.N. Ganesh, Skaria Zachariah, M. Ashok Kumar and Joseph Skaria presented papers. Dr. Warrior was the moderator of the seminar.
