Bijapur
Bijapur: Sharanappa Sunagar, former Sindagi MLA, said here on Saturday that the Congress would launch an agitation from December 11 against “the failure of the State Government in providing basic facilities to people”. He told presspersons here after a preliminary meeting with the party workers on preparations for the agitation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by B.S. Yeddyurappa had failed to solve problems of farmers and the common man. Though Mr. Yeddyurappa had promised to provide uninterrupted power supply to farmers, he failed to provide the same, he said. The poor had not received ration cards owing to wrong survey by officers concerned, Mr. Sunagar said. “The Government has not released any funds for taking up development schemes in Assembly constituencies where non-BJP candidates have won the seats,” he added. Through the 73rd and 74th amendments of the Constitution, the Congress had decided to give scope for decentralisation of power in the country, Mr. Sunagar said. But the BJP was trying to curb this with unconstitutional policies, he said. The Government had decided to appoint an advisory committee to accommodate its party workers in policy making bodies. The Congress would launch a public awareness programme against such decisions, he added .
