Happy: The winners of The Hindu Young World On-the-Spot Painting Competition in Mysore on Sunday.

MYSORE: It was creativity at its best as nearly 200 children gave expression to their artistic talent at The Hindu Young World On-the-Spot Painting Competition here on Sunday.

The contest, sponsored by Lotte BooProo, saw participation by schoolchildren from the districts of Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar. There was a student who had come all the way from Ooty too.

The subject for the junior category (classes four to seven) was “A visit to the circus” while for the senior category students (classes 8 to 10) it was “Deforestation”. And, it was “talent unlimited” as the judges who observed the children drawing and painting, said.

The judges, Basavaraja Musavalgi, Reader and Head of Department (Graphics) and N.S. Pradeep Kumar, Lecturer in Graphics, both from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), said the children had great potential and that they had a tough time choosing the winners. Swami Karunakaranandaji of the RIMSE B.Ed College, who was the chief guest, inspired the children with a pep talk on personality development. He said participation was important and success was guaranteed in life if any work was undertaken in the right spirit.
