Biocon denies charges

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Biotechnology major Biocon has said it does not let any effluents flow out of its Hosur Road premises.

Speaking to presspersons on Saturday, the company chairperson and managing director, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, said the allegations about groundwater being polluted and people in the nearby residential areas affected by bad odour from the plant were not true. The Hebbagodi Gram Panchayat and Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike had made the allegations.

“Groundwater in most parts of the city and the suburbs is now polluted and surely we are not responsible… On our part, we have invested Rs. 70 crore to treat effluents and reduce to the minimum, odour from our effluent treatment plants at two locations,” she said.
