BWSSB unearths illegal connections

BANGALORE: The recently constituted Revenue Enforcement Cell of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has unearthed three cases of illegal water and sewerage connections which resulted in a loss of Rs. 4 crore to the board.

According to a BWSSB release here on Saturday, the cell has detected illegal water and sewerage connections in Southcity Complex, comprising over 360 houses, near Kothanur village of Bangalore South taluk.

The owners of the building had taken illegal connections even before formal connection was to be provided for which an application was made by them, the release added.

The board directed the building owners to pay Rs.1.15 crore, which they had evaded to BWSSB, along with the fine.

The cell also detected that water and sewerage connections were obtained for a property (bearing site number 18/2) near Rajarajeshwarinagar Arch on Mysore Road without official evaluation of construction, which is yet to be completed.

The owners of the building have been asked to pay a sum of Rs. 53.34 lakh in this connection.

Meters

At Shakambarinagar, under the fifth sub-division of south division, the cell found that water connections were provided to over 53 flats without installing meters.

The board had incurred a revenue loss of Rs. 1.22 lakh in this case, which it directed the property owners to pay with penalty.

Probe

BWSSB chairman P.B. Ramamurthy has ordered an inquiry into these cases and asked the Chief Engineer (Maintenance) to take disciplinary action against the erring officials based on the inquiry.
