Bali: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will cut short her visit to Indonesia by two days, leaving Jakarta on the afternoon of December 1, instead of on December 3 as originally scheduled. On reaching Mumbai on the evening of December 1, she will go straight from the airport to J.J. Hospital to visit the victims who were injured in the recent terror attacks. The next morning the President will hold discussions with Maharashtra Governor S.C. Jamir and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. Following these meetings, she will visit the homes of Hemant Karkare and Vijay Salaskar, senior police officials slain in the terrorist attacks. “No official engagement of the President in Indonesia will be cancelled,” her press secretary, Christy Fernandez, said on Saturday. Ms. Patil would keep her important engagements in Jakarta — meetings with her Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Chairpersons of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Regional Representatives Council, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Correction and Clarification:A report "[President] Pratibha curtails Indonesia tour, to visit Mumbai" (November 30, 2008) gave the designation of Christy Fernandez as the President's press secretary. Dr. Christy Fernandez (1973 batch of the IAS Gujarat cadre) is the Secretary to the President.
