Maharaja’s continues winning streak

KOCHI: Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, continued the winning streak on the fourth day of the Mahatma Gandhi University Youth Festival here on Saturday. The college won 69 points to lead the overall tally.

R.L.V. College of Music and Fine Arts, Thripunithura, edged past St. Teresa’s, Ernakulam, to emerge second with 66 points. St. Teresa’s College was in the third place with 50 points. Art lovers enjoyed every moment of the Ottanthullal competition held at the Ernakulam Maharaja’s College auditorium. The event saw eight young talents displaying their skills effectively on the stage.

Wins hearts

Jithin John, a final-year student of B.A. English at S.B College, Changanacherry, won the hearts of the both the judges and the capacity crowd and bagged the first prize. The group music event held at Maharaja’s College ground evoked mixed response from the audience. Some referred to the decline in quality of singing while a few teams provided relief to the crowd by coming up with some mellifluous numbers.

The cartoon competition gave the participants an opportunity to unleash their creative skills. Winners of various events: string instrument (eastern) – J. C. Sabareesh Prabhakar (Maharaja’s College), and K. T.P. Devi (Union Christian College, Aluva). Light music (female): E. M. Vandana (U. C. College, Aluva), and Alphonsa Raju (St. Teresa’s College).

Elocution (English): Sanjose A. Thomas (CMS College, Kottayam), and Wailana Shahanaz Jabir (St. Teresa’s College). Mono act: Lakshmi Jyothi (St. Peter’s College, Kolencherry), and Remya Ramanan (R.L.V. College of Music and Fine Arts, Thripunithura).
