Policemen to train in Scotland Yard

Udupi: State Home Minister V.S. Acharya said on Saturday that in the wake of the increase in crime, some policemen of the State would undergo training in the Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom.

Speaking to presspersons after the valedictory of the two-day workshop on “Protection of scene of crime” organised by the Udupi District Police,

Dr. Acharya said that the Government will send some policemen from the State to Israel for commando training. As many as 31 traffic policemen from the State, including 19 from Bangalore will be sent to Singapore for studying effective traffic management, he added.

Dr. Acharya informed that Chief Minister B.S. Yedddyurappa would inaugurate the crime prevention drive in Bangalore on December 1.To motivate policemen to help in reduction of incidence of crime and to and to develop a comepetitive spirit in them, competitions would be held for police constables at the district level. For police personnel of the rank of subinspector and above, state-level competitions, he said.

And, in order to step up security in the coastal districts, a meeting of the Coastal Security Police and the police of the three districts was held.The meeting discussed ways and means to improve security measures in these districts.

Dr. Acharya also informed that Chief Minister Mr. Yeddyurappa would be held in Bangalore on Saturday, in which measures to strengthen security in important locations would be discussed, and that the Government was yet to decide on giving compensation to families of Kannaadigas who were killed in terror strike in Mumbai.
