Officials advised to visit places which have civic problems

CMC president says water supply in Karambally area disrupted due to repair works

People who dump building materials by the roadside to be dealt with sternly

Udupi: The issue of drinking water supply dominated the General Body meeting of the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) here on Saturday.

Raising the issue, Councillor Vasanthi Shetty demanded that residents of Ambalpady be given water supply connection from the Swarna Second Stage Drinking Water Project.

Councillor Mohan Upadhya said that at the Katte Acharya Road there were old drinking water pipelines and so it would be better if connection to residents of that area was given through the water pipeline in Rajangana area.

Councillor Geeta Sherigar said that residents of Karambally area were facing acute water problem. She added that she had urged Assistant Executive Engineer of the CMC M.H. Nanjunda Swamy to address the issue but in vain.

Immediately, CMC president Dinakar Shetty intervened to say that water supply in Karambally area was disrupted due to repair works. Issuing a warning to Mr. Swamy, he added that officials should visit spots where there are problems.

Councillor Kiran Kumar suggested that a special squad should be formed to check if water meters had been installed in all the houses which have water connection given by the CMC. Mr. Shetty directed the officials to undertake the checking within 15 days’ time.

When Councillor Devendra Prabhu said illegal petty shops were coming up in Manipal, Mr. Shetty promised that action would be taken..

Construction material

Councillor Amrita Krishnamurthy said people were dumping the construction materials by the roadside blocking storm-water drains. Mr Shetty CMC would deal with the matter sternly.
