CHENNAI: Music sabhas should encourage young musicians by giving them prime slot during their music festivals, said speakers at the inauguration of 11-day Bharat Kalachar and Nalli Swagatham Margazhi Sangeetha Vizha here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the festival, percussionist Umayalpuram K.Sivaraman said that Bharat Kalachar was among the few sabhas in the city which encourage talented youth by accommodating them along with senior vidwans. This would bring the latent talent of young musicians.
He also complemented chairman of Bharat Kalachar Mrs.Y.G.Parthasarathy for imparting the age-old culture of the country among students.
Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy, who presided over the function, wanted other sabhas to follow Bharat Kalachar in giving opportunities to young talented musicians.
Mrs. Parthasarathy said as noon music programmes did not find favour with ‘rasikas’ the Sabha had launched the festival especially for the upcoming artists.
