Young artists to showcase their talent

Competition will begin at 9 a.m.

Prizes will be distributed at noon



VIJAYAWADA: ‘The Hindu Young World Painting Competition’, the grand event that children eagerly look forward to every year, will be held on the premises of N. St. Mathew’s Public School, Patamata here on Sunday.

As many as 1,197 entries in junior category (students of Classes IV to VII) and 442 entries in senior category (students of Classes VIII to X) were received, out of which 200 children in each category were selected by our panel of judges.

The final on-the-spot painting competition will begin sharp at 9 a.m., and all the children, who were already informed through their schools about their selection, will have to report at the venue by 8 a.m. on their own cost. They will have to bring without fail the letter of intimation sent to them.

Painting material like brushes and colours will have to be brought by the children, while drawing sheets will be provided at the venue. Themes for the competition will also be announced there and then.

The painting competition will go on till 11 a.m., and it will be followed by the selection of first, second and third prizes, besides some consolation prizes, in both juniors and seniors categories by a panel of eminent artists.

Prizes will be distributed at 12 noon by the chief guest, Commissioner of Police K.V. Rajendranath Reddy.

Every participating child will get a certificate. This year, the competition, an initiative of The Hindu-Newspaper In Education (NIE) programme, is being conducted in 14 centres. It was held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode on Saturday.

On Sunday, it will be conducted simultaneously at Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, New Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchirapalli.

The national sponsor of the event is Lotte BooProo Liquid Filled Bubble Gum, while local sponsors are Hitech Mineral Water, Swagruha Foods and Twins – Sweet & Spice.
