SHIMOGA: S.K. Nadig, cartoonist and journalist, died here on Saturday. He was 80. Mr. Nadig is survived by wife and three sons. Mr. Nadig took to cartooning at the age of 15 by making his first contribution to the English magazine Mini Mag. He worked as a subeditor for Koravanji and proof reader for Chitragupta magazine. He had over 20,000 cartoons to his credit which were published in leading Kannada dailies and magazines. Mr. Nadig was the pocket cartoonist for Kannada newspaper Udayavani for the last several years. He also worked as the accounts officer at the Mysore Paper Mills in Bhadravati for sometime. Mr. Nadig, who was also a novelist and short story writer, was the recipient of the Kannada Media Academy Award in 1989. He was also honoured with the Life Long Achiever Award instituted by the Indian Cartoonists’ Association in 2002. Mr. Nadig wrote the script and dialogues for the Kannada film “Kanneshwara Rama” which was based on his novel “Kannayarama”.
