Shimoga
SHIMOGA: Karnataka is among nine States selected by the Union Government for setting up of a non-communicable diseases centre to create awareness about them. Chief Executive Officer of Shimoga Zilla Panchayat V. Anbukumar has said that a pilot project will be taken up in Shimoga district for creating awareness about non-communicable diseases under the Union Government scheme. Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the district action plan here on Thursday, he said that a survey of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart related ailments, cancer and paralysis would be taken up to offer medical aid to the affected people. A non-communicable diseases cell would be set up at the district McGann Hospital and two medical officers and two health assistants would be appointed initially. Training would be provided to members of Stree Shakti groups and other social organisations for detection and management of non-communicable diseases in areas identified under the scheme. The cell should function in a transparent manner ensuring effective utilisation of grants sanctioned for implementation of the scheme, he said. Mr. Anbukumar asked officials to submit progress reports on every Monday. He said that review meetings would be held every month to take stock of progress made in implementing the scheme.
