KARAIKAL: Power supply, drinking water and provision of food and kerosene will be the priorities of the Puducherry government in the rain hit villages, Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam has said on Friday.
He said that situation was returning to normal.
The Chief Minister visited the rain hit villages in Nedungadu, Tirunallar and other commune along with the District Collector, N. Vasantha Kumar and local MLAs. He said that over 70,000 people were being housed in government shelters and they would be provided with two litres of kerosene, 10 kg of rice for BPL card holders and 5 kg for other card holders.
Dr. Vasantha Kumar said that breaches in the Vanjiyar and Arasalar in Tamil Nadu had caused water to overflow in Nedungadu.
The residents of Vizhudiyur complained to the Chief Minister that the breach had caused the water to flow into their houses. The Chief Minister assured them of immediate action. An ambulance was being provided to treat emergency cases in all the communes.
