Musicians honoured

BHUBANESWAR: Versatile Odissi vocalist and music scholar Pandit Damodar Hota, popular singer Mohapatra Minati Bhanja and Mardal (percussion instrument) exponent Sachidananda Das were conferred the Raga Prajnamaya, Kantha Ratnamala and Raga Brahmarasi titles during the just concluded Devadeepali devotional music festival at Puri.

It was hosted in front of the temple of Jagannath by Sri Jagannath Samskruti Jagaran Parishad.

Late legendary singer-composer Akshaya Mohanty and well-known music album producer late Satya Narayan Agarwal were also honoured posthumously on the occasion.

Inaugurating the festival, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee prominent musician Guru Kasinath Pujapanda emphasised on the relevance of recognising talents dedicated to the cause of Indian culture.

Chief Administrator of the temple and Revenue Divisional Commissioner S. N. Sarangi, Puri Collector Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma and Zilla Parishad chairperson Shankar Parida also addressed the gathering. They spoke on various efforts being undertaken by the temple administration, the Puri district administration and the state departments of tourism and culture to highlight the cultural heritage of the pilgrims’ paradise of Puri.

Parishad T.Bhagaban Mohapatra and Secretary Gunadhar Das Mohapatra were present. Several singers like Sailabhama, Anjali Mishra, Kumar Bapi, Dibakar Mohanty and Mansai Patra besides Pandit Hota performed. The star attraction of the festival was, however, Mumbai-based singer Anil Bawra.
