564 km of roads damaged: Minister

THANJAVUR: Roads to a length of 564 km have been damaged in Thanjavur district due to the recent rain and floods said Minister for Highways Vellakoil Swaminathan, at Madukkur in Thanjavur district on Saturday.

He inspected the road breaches at Andami near Madukkur on Mannargudi-Pattukottai road and Padappaikadu on Madukkur-Pattukottai road.

He said that it has been estimated that the damages to roads were to the tune of Rs. 3.80 crore. Thirty bridges have been damaged in the district. In total it has been estimated that damages to the tune of Rs. 4.5 crore have been caused to roads and bridges. He said that in the whole state of Tamil Nadu, roads to a distance of 6,400 km have been damaged. As many as 125 small and big bridges have been damaged. N. R. Rangarajan, Pattukottai MLA, explained to the Minister the extent of damages.
