CHENNAI: Anil Agarwal, Executive Chairman, Vedanta Resources, has been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008. Mr. Agarwal will now represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in May 2009. The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to PRS Oberoi, Chairman and CEO, The Oberoi Group. Significantly, this time, a winner has emerged from Chennai as well. Dr. P. Namperumalsamy, Chairman, Aravind Eye Care Systems, is chosen for the Health Care and Life Sciences Award for his contribution to super-specialty ophthalmology and his pioneering work in medical and surgical treatment of diseases of retina and vitreous in India. The entrepreneur of the year infrastructure and construction award goes to Jaiprakash Gaur, Founder Chairman, Jaypee Group. Gautam Thapar, Chairman & CEO, Avantha Group, is the winner in the manufacturing category. The award for the start-up entrepreneur of the year goes to Arvind Rao, CEO and co-founder, OnMobile Global, says a release from Ernst & Young. Rohinton Screwvala, CEO, UTV Software Communications; Sanjeev Bikhchandani, CEO & Managing Director, and Hitesh Oberoi, Director and COO, Info Edge (India); and A. M. Naik, Chairman & Managing Director, Larsen & Tourbo, have emerged winners in various other categories.
