Kozhikode: The report of the Backward Classes Commission with respect to the recommendation made in the Sachar Committee report on Kachi and Menen communities would be submitted within a month. This was stated in Kozhikode on Saturday by Chairman of the Commission G. Sivarajan. Muslim organisations had complained that Revenue authorities had been turning down requests from members of these communities for certificates to claim benefits available to Muslims. These organisations had appealed to the Backward Classes Commission to take steps to ensure that certificates were issued. The Kalanadi community did not attend the commission sitting on the recommendation for inclusion of Kalanadi and Malava communities in the list of Other Backward Communities (OBCs). However, representatives of Kurikkal and Chetties appeared before the commission to seek recognition as Sreepanchada Chetty community. J. Sudhakaran, member-secretary of the Backward Classes Commission, and representatives of various organisations attended the commission’s hearing held at the Collectorate here on Saturday.
