Proud moment: R. Sreelekha, Managing Director of the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation, with the winners of The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition held in Kochi on Saturday. — KOCHI: Niza Kaladharan, a Class VI student from Our Lady of Mercy HSS, Aroor, and Anju Krishna, a Class X student from Sree Narayana Public School, Poothotta, emerged winners in the junior and senior categories of The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition 2008 held at the Toc-H Indoor Stadium at Vytilla here on Saturday.. The competition presented by Lotte BooPRoo saw 270 school students from Ernakulam and neighbouring districts putting their painting skills to test. The contestants were divided into junior (Class IV to VII) and senior (Class VIII to X) categories. Giving away the awards, Inspector General of Police R. Sreelekha, MD, Roads and Bridges Development Corporation, said the ability to express one’s inner self through paintings was a real gift and blessing. Krishna Soman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Poochatty, Thrissur and Dibin V. Sivadas of Kendriya Vidyalaya, No II, Naval Base came in the second and third positions in the junior category. In the senior category, Vysakh P.R. of SMHSS, Cherai, and Geethu Mary of Infant Jesus Public School, Alangad, walked away with the second and third prizes. The topics for juniors were either a picnic spot or school library, while the seniors were given the topic of a festival scene or a visit to a departmental store. Seven consolation prizes each were given in both the categories. Ramanath V. of Sree Sarada Vidyalaya, Kalady; Pranav Santhosh, Sree Venkateswara E.M.H.S., Thripunithura; Sreelakshmi R, S.B.O.A Public School, Vaduthala; Shankar Dinesh Kamath, Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakkara; Priyamvada Mahesh, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar; Gouthami Romeo P. of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad; and Renu Kurup, Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad received the prizes in the junior category. Among the seniors, Swetha R. of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad; Milta Saju, Sobhana E.M.H.S Kothamangalam; Akhil K.B, St. Thomas High School, Thrissur; Jishnu P. Raj, M.G.E. H.H.S.S. Njaliakuzhy; Athira Menon, L.F.H.S. Panayikulam; Atma Dinnie, Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery; Ashwath, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Elamakkara won the consolation prizes. Noted artists V.B. Venu and Bhagyanath adjudged the winners. All the participants were given certificates of The Hindu Young World and Lotte BooPRoo.
