PAC’s decision under scanner

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Lok Satta parties were critical of the manner in which the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Assembly on Friday overruled objections in implementation of the Yellampalli project after replacing the chairman of the panel.

TDP deputy leader in Assembly and a member of the committee Nagam Janardhan Reddy told a press conference here that the ruling given by the PAC was not final as its chairman Yanamala Ramakrishnudu who could not attend the meeting would reopen the issue.

He said Congress member K. Bapiraju, who presided over the meeting in the absence of Ramkrishnudu (TDP), chairman, and Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI), deputy chairman, did not go through the records when he dismissed allegations of irregularities in implementation of Yellampalli project. TRS MLA T. Harish Rao and former MLA Nayani Narasimha Reddy told reporters separately that the Congress government gave itself a clean chit after ensuring the presence of a party leader in the chair. Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan said a leader of the Opposition traditionally headed the PAC as it was supposed to keep an eye on expenditure of public money .
