Police to re-issue red corner notice against six Deendar men

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Police will seek the help of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in nabbing eight accused Deendar Anjuman activists who are at large in connection with the sensational church blast cases of 2000.

In a judgment here on Saturday, a special court in the city sentenced 11 persons to death and 12 to life imprisonment in the church blast cases. Five main accused, relatives of the sect founder Deendar Channabasaveshwara Siddiqui, reportedly fled to Pakistan and the court directed the police to take steps to nab them.

V.S. D’Souza, presently Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mysore, who was the lead investigator, told The Hindu on Saturday that the absconding men are Zia-ul-Hasan (one of the sons of Channabasaveshwara Siddiqui) and his four sons — Syed Ziya ul Hasan, Syed Zahed Pasha, Syed Khalid Pasha and Shabi ul Hasan.

“Apart from these five, we need Shaikh Amir, Syed Wahab and Syed Khalid Hussain in connection with the blasts,” he added.

Though red corner notices were issued against these accused in 2000 through the Interpol, they have not been nabbed.

As the conviction and sentences have been passed in the case, the police would once again seek to issue the notices, Mr. D’ Souza added.

Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar Singh, Director-General of Police (Corps of Detectives), told presspersons here on Saturday that the police would launch fresh prosecution once they nab the missing men. He said the CoD personnel had done a commendable job in investigating the church blast cases and conducting the prosecution.
