Gloom in looms

BANGALORE: The All India Handloom Board member G. Ravi has said that the handloom sector would be in crisis as over five lakh weavers were likely to lose their jobs this year if the Centre and the State Government fail to support the textile and handloom industry. He said here on Saturday that of the 76,605 handloom units in the State, only 44,000 had been functioning. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had promised to provide Rs. 500 crore in five years. He urged the Government to set up a revolving fund and release Rs. 50 crore.
