Irrigation projects to be named after national leaders

HYDERABAD: The mega irrigation projects of Pranahita-Chevella, Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi and Dummagudem have been named after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Jyothirao Phule respectively.
They will now be called Dr. Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi, Babu Jagjivan Ram Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi, and Mahatma Jyothirao Phule Dimmagudem Sujala Sravanthi.
A decision to rename the projects was taken by the Cabinet at its meeting here on Saturday.
The Telugu Ganga which supplies water to Chennai and irrigates a vast ayacut in Rayalaseema, has been named Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Telugu Ganga project, acknowledging the efforts made by NTR to implement this inter-state project.
Similarly, Pulivendula Lift Irrigation project has been christened as Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy project and Galeru-Nagari project as Srikrishnadevaraya Galeru-Nagari Sujala Sravanthi after the great Telugu emperor of yore.
The Hyderabad Godavari Water Supply Scheme has been named as Moulana Abdul Kalam Sujala Sravanthi and Kanathalapalli Lift Irrigation scheme after P. V. Narasimha Rao and SRBC after Damodaram Sanjeevaiah.
