‘Treat HIV-affected humanely’

Free legal services offered to HIV victims


HASSAN: Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashok G. Nijagannavar has advised people to treat victims of HIV in a humane manner.

Inaugurating a one-day legal workshop for the HIV-affected and workers in the Department of Health at the Vivek Arogya Kendra here on Saturday, he said no one was immune from the disease. Good health was always an asset and one should strive to protect it.

Treating the victims humanely and responding to their problems was society’s duty. The workshop was jointly organised by the Hassan Lawyers’ Association, the District Legal Services Authority and the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement.

Principal Civil Judge (senior division) and Chief Judicial Magistrate N.C. Srinivas, who is also Member Secretary to the District Legal Services Authority, said those who were educated should help those in need. He said the District Legal Services Authority would provide HIV victims legal assistance freely and asked them utilise the services. President of the Hassan Lawyers’ Association B.V. Chenne Gowda lauded the Vivekananda Youth Movement for conducting the workshop.

Dr. Sudhir B., Bangalore Director of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, appealed for better treatment at government hospitals for HIV victims.

As part of the workshop, experts H.N. Jayadeva Gowda, Pushpalatha and Loni P. Alva delivered lectures. Mohan welcomed the gathering and Nagaraj compered the programme. Ravi Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.
