Mallamma elected ZP vice-president

Raichur: Mallamma, zilla panchayat member from Bagalwad of Manvi taluk, was elected vice-president of the Raichur Zilla Panchayat on Saturday.

At the beginning of the election process, ruling Congress members Basheeruddin and Guruvina Siddayya Tata proposed Ms. Mallamma’s candidature for the post of vice-president, which was reserved for a candidate from the Backward Classes (B).

She was the only one who filed her nomination papers before Rajneesh Goel, Returning Officer and the Regional Commissioner.

After scrutiny, her nomination papers were accepted. Later, she was declared elected unanimously.The vice-presidential election was first held on November 5 where Ms. Mallamma was the only member to file papers.

Mr. Goel, however, cancelled the election process on legal grounds. The Congress had threatened to question his decision in court.

Adoni Syed Saleem, Deputy Commissioner; N.V. Prasad, zilla panchayat chief executive officer; and Annadanaiah, zilla panchayat deputy secretary, were present.
