Yeddyurappa to lay airport foundation stone

Staff Correspondent

Bijapur: District in-charge Minister Govind Karjol has said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will visit Bijapur on December 7 to lay the foundation stone of the greenfield airport at Burnapur village.

Approval

He told presspersons here on Saturday that the airport would be built by Marg Ltd. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had formally approved development of the airport.

Fisheries centre

The Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Inland Fisheries Research and Information Centre on 25 acres of land identified by the district administration. The project requires Rs. 2.6 crore for construction of administrative buildings, a fishing pond, a laboratory, a training centre and staff quarters.

The amount will be released under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana in phases in the course of the next five years.

Objectives

“The centre aims to take up research related to fisheries, find new methods through which people can earn more profits through fishing, provide technical advice on construction of fish ponds to interested institutions, provide proper market to sell fish and conduct training programmes to create awareness among people on how fisheries can improve their financial conditions and check migration,” Mr. Karjol said.
