Expedite sports complex work: Sports Council

KANNUR: The District Sports Council has urged the State government to expedite steps to start the construction of the proposed Sports Complex at Mundayad here.

Council president O.K. Bineesh and executive member M. Prakasan, MLA, said at a press conference here on Saturday that sports infrastructure should be developed in the district that had contributed national and international level sports talents.

There was no modern sports training facility in the district, they said adding that such a facility would benefit many upcoming athletes and players.

They also demanded that the functioning of the panchayat-level sports councils be fine-tuned.

The proposed sports complex would be a boon to sports persons and sports lovers, they said.

The government should accelerate measures to start the construction works, they added.

They welcomed the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M. Vijayakumar’s announcement that Kannur would be one of the venues of the National Games scheduled to be held in the State in 2010.
