Baby chairs textbook adalat

Staff Reporter

To assess availability of textbooks and address shortage problem

KOLLAM: Education Minister M.A. Baby chaired a textbook adalat at Town UP School here on Saturday. The adalat was held to assess the availability of textbooks and address the shortage. Headmasters from all the schools in the district attended the adalat, a press release issued here said.

The Minister inspected the stock position at the textbook depot here. He told press men that the attitude of a section of officers in the Education Department was the primary cause for the shortage of textbooks.

In a recent inspection at a school in Thiruvananthapuram a shortage of textbooks was found, the Minister said. The officers concerned, without examining the real facts, had sent a report to the Minister’s office stating that sufficient stock of books were allotted to the school in question. Action will be taken against such officers, he said.

The Minister said there was a shortage of the class VI Hindi reader. Arabic and Urdu textbooks were also in short supply. There was no shortage of textbooks required for the ninth and tenth classes, Mr. Baby said. Deputy Director of Education, Kollam, B. Vijayan was also present at the adalat.
