For the masses: P. Rathinavelu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Hosur, unveiling the plaque at the Arogya Health Centre. J.N. Amrolia, Executive Director, Construction and Allied Businesses, Head, CSR, Ashok Leyland, is in the picture. HOSUR: The Executive Director, Ashok Leyland, J.N. Amrolia, inaugurated Arogya Health Centre on the busy Bangalore-Chennai National Highway No. 4 recently in the presence of Honorary Secretary, Voluntary Health Services, Dr. N.S. Murali. It has been set up in association with the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society, a charitable trust and Rural Inter-Disciplinary Society, an NGO which is an initiative of the Ashok Leyland. A press release issued by Ashok Leyland said, “this is a public-private initiative by the company to provide holistic healthcare to the drivers and migrant workers in the region where the spotlight is on HIV/AIDS in the bustling National Highway No.4.” This centre’s prime objective is to encourage drivers and migrant workers to shed their inhibitions and use the clinic for their well-being. Free consultation will be provided to the drivers and migrant workers, whereas the local people can utilise services on payment of a nominal fee. A medical team consisting of doctors, counsellor, paramedics and four outreach workers will man the centre. The target for the first year is to cover 1.5 lakh drivers and migrant workers, it added. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Amrolia said, “Good health is often not a priority for many economically marginalised people, whose work situations expose them to several health hazards. Ashok Leyland is happy to be involved in this private-public partnership initiative, which will serve the health needs of the underserved.” Besides operating Driver Training Centres that ready drivers for life on the road and off it, Ashok Leyland, as part of its social responsibility, has been involved in many other such endeavors in different parts of the country. Rural road safety awareness programmes, health and medical camps, imparting basic computer education to economically marginalised school students, and supporting and training self-help groups to become self-reliant are some of their initiatives,” the release added. Hosur Revenue Divisional Officer P. Rathinavelu participated in the function.
