Rs.9.50 lakh has been set apart for Adi Dravidar/tribal farmers Scheme will be implemented through the Department of Agricultural Engineering VELLORE: The State government has allotted Rs.60 lakh to the Vellore district for the grant of subsidy to farmers for replacing 989 old electrical irrigation pump sets during 2008-09. Of this sum, Rs.9.50 lakh has been set apart to Adi Dravidar/tribal farmers for the replacement of 142 pump sets. The scheme will be implemented through the Department of Agricultural Engineering. Vellore Collector C. Rajendran said in a release that Adi Dravidar/tribal farmers having pump sets of less than five horse power (HP) capacity would be eligible for a subsidy of Rs.3,500 or 50 per cent of the cost of the pump sets, whichever was lower. Other farmers would be eligible for a grant of Rs. 2,500 or 25 per cent of the cost, whichever was lower. Adi Dravidar/tribal farmers having pump sets of capacity of more than five HP would be eligible for a grant of Rs.6,000 or 50 per cent of the cost, whichever was lower, whereas other farmers would be eligible for Rs. 5,000 or 25 per cent of the cost, whichever was lower. Farmers who replace their old pump sets would also be given a subsidy of Rs.1,500 for replacing the accessories, or 50 per cent of the cost of accessories, whichever was lower. Priority would be given to small/medium/women farmers who get their connection from high-tension transformers recommended by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. Farmers interested in availing themselves of the subsidy had been requested to approach the following officers of the Agricultural Engineering Department, along with the chitta, adangal (land ownership records and land tax receipts) and the connection certificate of the TNEB: Assistant Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department (opp. to Government Polytechnic), Bagayam, Vellore-632002, Assistant Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, Anaicut Road, Walajapet or Assistant Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, Pudupet Road, Tirupattur.
