CHENNAI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday made a presentation to airline operators on the development works being taken up at the Anna International terminal and the Kamaraj Domestic terminal.

The authorities explained to the operators about various facilities that would be created in both the terminals. A senior AAI officer said the existing international terminal was functioning in an area of 42,300 square metres and another 59,300 square metre area would be added.

The new terminal would have 72 passenger check-in counters. The existing international terminal had the capacity to handle 3 million passengers annually and after completion of the work, the international terminal would be able to handle 7 million passengers a year.

The existing domestic terminal has an area of 19,250 square metres and another 67,700 square metre area would be added with 62 passenger check-in counters.

At present the existing terminal could handle 6 million passengers annually, which after completion would be able to handle 10 million passengers additionally, said the officer.

The Airline Operators Committee expressed its happiness over the new infrastructure developments taking place at the international and domestic terminals. The committee requested the AAI authorities to organise periodic co-ordination meetings with various agencies in the airport to obtain suggestions for improvement works at the terminal. Such a step would be useful to both the passengers and the airline operators, who are the end users.

K. Ramalingam, Chairman, AAI, Harpal Singh, Executive Director (Planning and Architecture), AAI, and Chennai Airport Director K. Natarajan participated in the meeting.

Representatives from Air India, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Air France, Jet, Kuwait, Lufthansa, Qatar and Singapore airlines were present.

The stretch measured a distance of 450 metres, said the AAI officials.

A public grievance officer has been posted at both the domestic and international terminals.

The AAI has displayed the name of the officer, telephone number and e-mail identity.
