When Nirmala had the taste of terror attack

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Nirmala, a native of Tuticorin and employed in an IT firm in Mumbai, was waiting to take a train on November 26, when the first terror attack began at the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus.

Minor injuries

Nirmala had to duck when the gunman started shooting. She sustained minor injuries, bruises and scrapes and was largely unscathed, except for a splinter in the forehead.

After receiving first aid at a local hospital along with the others who were injured in the incident, Nirmala decided to take a flight to Chennai. She had to get home where her marriage was scheduled for Sunday.

In Chennai, Nirmala sought treatment at Billroth Hospital in Shenoy Nagar. She was treated by a neurosurgeon who removed the splinter, according to sources.

Hearing of Nirmala’s story, several members of the media landed at the hospital. But this flustered Nirmala and her parents who sought that she be shifted to the Critical Care Unit, just to be away from media attention.

Hospital sources said the patient was doing fine.

She was discharged this evening.
