Emphasis on consumer rights

HYDERABAD: A ‘mini-Gita’ and ‘unputdownable’. That is how Justice A. R. Dave, Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and D. Appa Rao, president, AP State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, respectively described ‘Consumer is King!!, know your rights and remedies’ a book written by Rajyalakshmi Rao, member, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, here on Friday.

They were addressing a function where the Telugu and Urdu versions of the book were released. M. B. Shah, chairman of the national commission, several serving and retired judges and the High Court, former RBI Governor Y.V. Reddy and film-maker D. Rama Naidu were present. M. Jagannadha Rao, former chairman of the National Law Commission, presided.

Justice Dave observed that although the system was excellent the consumer was weak, particularly if he or she purchased foreign goods, since the goods received may not be the same as showcased in advertisements.
