VISAKHAPATNAM: Glowing tributes were paid to parliamentarian Tenneti Viswanadham at a function organised on Friday by over century-old Telugu daily Krishna Patrika, which brought out a special issue on the leader. Peethadhipati of Courtalam Peetham Sri Siddheswarananda Bharati, who released the special issue, recalled his association with Dr. Viswanadham, who was also involved in literary activity. The legend“I also visited his residence a couple of times. We even drove to Chodavaram for a function along with S.V. Joga Rao, a professor, and others and discussed how the place derived its name which means ‘boon from Choda kings’ from Nellore,” he recounted. According to history, the Choda kings went up to Chodavaram led by Komana Dandanatha, father of the poet ‘Kavibrahma’ Tikkana, on the mission of conquest. A peace pact was reached that the Choda kingdom need not extend further and a lake named ‘Kommayagundam’ also existed in Chodavaram according to inscriptions, the Swami recalled. He said Dr. Viswanadham was a great statesman and had no enemies. Disciple of Tenneti, Durvasula Bhaskara Murthy congratulated Krishna Patrika Editor Piratla Venkateswarlu for bringing out the special issue on Tenneti who was associated with great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Annie Beasant and Aurobindo Ghosh. Tenneti was responsible for releasing Rs.1,000 crores for setting up the Vizag steel plant during the Janata Government, he said. Registrar of Andhra University PVGD Prasada Reddy spoke of the greatness of Tenneti whose tall deeds, including the movement to achieve Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, were remembered by next generations. Fond memoriesProf. Visweswaram, in his addressed, said he was lucky to be in Rajahmundry jail during Emergency along with Tenneti and everyday was spent so usefully that they thought they were free while the outside world was in prison. BSNL General Manager P. Nagaraju, ‘Maharshi’ Yaddanapudi Ayyannapantulu and Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Nookaraju congratulated the newspaper for bringing out the special issue.
