For speedy transport: Two-wheelers at the North Police Station in Tirupur. —
Tirupur: The police patrolling has been intensified in the city on Friday with the induction of 10 two-wheelers and 110 policemen mobilised from other parts of the State.
Superintendent of Police (Coimbatore Rural) G. Karthikeyan told The Hindu that of the 110 personnel, 30 were brought from Special Task Force, another 30 from other districts and the remaining were moved from within the district to the city.
The motorbikes would be used by the police officials for making the rounds in sensitive areas, in mufti, as a measure of providing additional security and ensuring maintenance of law and order.
This will help the police deal with any contingency that may arise, and make sure that no untoward incident occurs.
He said that plans were afoot to make available four more jeeps in the city, in addition to the existing fleet, over the next few days, as an addition measure to step up security in various areas.
“These vehicles will be brought in from other parts of Coimbatore Range,” he said.
Official sources added that the public were involved as part of community policing, in order to strengthen the night beats across the city.
Security measures will continue till further orders.
