Chandigarh: In a move aimed at ensuring speedy possession of urban properties from tenants in Punjab to NRIs, the State Government on Friday asked Governor and Administrator UT Gen. (retd.) S. F. Rodrigues to implement the amended East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act 1949 in UT of Chandigarh. In a communique addressed to Gen. Rodrigues, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that the Punjab Government had amended the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act 1949 in May 2001 for paving the way for NRIs to get quick possession of their properties. He said that though Chandigarh was the capital town of Punjab, the amendment was still not applicable to the city. -- PTI
